Welcome to Young Chamber - Developing Minds for Developing Business

The Young Chamber is a new Government initiative and the aim is to connect education and business so that everyone wins. Businesses get to put across their point of view to potential young employees. Young people get a better perspective on work by finding out what employers want... simple but effective.
The heart of the idea is  to utilise the already powerful Chamber of Commerce networks across the country to enhance business and school contact. This simple idea provides schools with a single point of contact for business related issues and access to the local network of employers in their area. Young Chamber aims to be creative and innovative and to build relationships between the school, its pupils and the private sector.
In 2007 Young Chamber was successfully launched in the two pilot schools assigned to Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce; Trinity High School Redditch and Baxter College Kidderminster. Following the success of the scheme, the project has now been extended to cover ten schools across the two counies for the academic year 2009-10 with hopes to expand further next year.

STOP PRESS: Evesham students scoop first prize at Morgan Motors Enterprise Challenge

Students from twelve schools across Herefordshire and Worcestershire convened on the Morgan Motor Company Malvern, to compete in the Morgan Motors Enterprise Challenge. The event was hosted by Morgan Motors Ltd, as part of the company’s centenary year celebrations, and was generously sponsored by Rabjohns.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce organised the day in association with Young Enterprise as part of their Young Chamber project.

After an introduction to the company and a task brief, each team of students had just two hours to design, cost and pitch an innovative and original design concept for the Morgan Aeromax to a group of judges from Morgan Motors Ltd, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Young Enterprise. Each team was supported by a business mentor and all attendees showed great enthusiasm with the business volunteers praising the students’ performance and professionalism throughout the day. The day also included a fabulous presentation from Morgan’s Chief Designer Matthew Humphries, who has been working at the company since he completed his degree.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the enterprise activity and each group was treated to a very interesting and informative guided tour of the Morgan factory which covered every stage of production of these stunning vehicles and provided an opportunity to see this iconic business in action.

Prince Henry's Winning Team

On awarding the first prize the judges praised Prince Henry’s team for their professional presentation, their good grasp of the Morgan company’s culture, their well thought out design and commercial minded approach to the task. David Barker from Young Enterprise, Prince Henry’s business mentor, supported the team throughout the afternoon and found the students a pleasure to work with. The teams from The ChaseTechnology College,Malvern and the John Kyrle High School, Ross on Wye were also highly commended by the judges.

The day provided students with the opportunity to interact with professionals from the local business community, develop their enterprise skills and of course have fun! We would like to wish congratulations to the all the teams especially those from Prince Henry’s, The Chase and John Kyrle and a big thank you to all involved including the sponsors, judges and business volunteers who donated their time to broaden and enhance students’ learning and make the day such a success.
