Global Service for Shropshire Business
Twenty-seven Shropshire firms have found out how the British Embassies across the globe could help their export business.
UK Trade & Investment’s Shropshire international trade team held a free breakfast event to showcase its Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS) at Prostar Football Stadium, Shrewsbury, last Thursday (November 26).
OMIS is a tailored service available from UK Trade & Investment commercial teams located at the 99 British Embassies around the world.
Key speakers included Aron Craven of Telford-based forensic security firm SmartWater, who has used OMIS to win new export business, and Mark Pembleton, head of economic development at Shropshire Council.
International trade adviser Karine Barateau, said: “Some people don’t know that British Embassies do much more than represent the UK in other countries.
“OMIS is the most cost-effective way of finding business partners overseas. UK Trade & Investment’s commercial teams around the world have local language skills, market knowledge and extensive political and business contacts.
“”A recent survey showed that on average, businesses need to contact a potential overseas client eight times before successfully winning an order – from making the first contact to signing a deal.
“The trade offices can help to streamline this process by facilitating meetings with key buyers and decision makers. Companies can spend a huge amount of money on overseas visits before signing their first export deal if they don’t have the right information or meet the right person.
“The delegates found out that the Embassies’ trade offices are an invaluable resource that could help them grow their sales overseas by saving them time and money.”
