How will your workforce shape up in 2020?
There is general agreement that skills will become even more important in the future as global, demographic and technological change places an even greater premium on a highly skilled workforce. By 2020 nearly 20 million additional people will need higher skill levels than at present, ranging from basic skills to degree level.Young people will not solve the skills deficit in the immediate future, as over 70 per cent of the 2020 workforce has already completed their compulsory education. It is often difficult to identify what training is available from the range of skills support provided by both private and public sector organisations.

The Chamber of Commerce has developed a range of information within its skills pages, that provides businesses with access to a range of solutions to support the development of its workforce. The employer offer has been developed to meet the needs of businesses whatever their size or sector, it aims to support the recruitment of new employees and retraining of existing workforces. Our skills pages are simple to understand and will provide a guide on how to access support and develop a whole approach and commitment to skills within your business. Skills is a hot topic and many businesses have a view about how they would like to train their staff. We have developed a skills forum that will help to capture members views on this key agenda. It will enable the Chamber to formulate policy views that will ultimately lead to a demand led approach and highlight collective issues identified by members and the wider business community.
