UNDERSTANDING EXPORT LICENCE CONTROLS
Guide to the UK/EC Export licence regulations and an introduction to USA Re-export controls

What is this seminar about?
Export control legislation is to be taken seriously, no question of that, and they affect many companies in the industrial and electronic areas. This one day course is aimed at clarifying the legislation so that full compliance can be achieved. Ideal for an overview or a refresher it looks at the regulations and controls on both dual-use and military goods, explains the use of export licences and the SPIRE systems. Export controls have the force of law in free world countries around the globe and are aimed at preventing the spread of sensitive military and dual-use goods and technologies to countries who may harbour or encourage terrorist activity and attempt to create weapons of mass destructions. Export controls are often difficult to comprehend but non-compliance can be seriously punished by fines and other penalties. This seminar will take you through the exporters’ responsibilities, how the Export Control Organisation of BERR can help and the type of licences operating in the UK. As many UK exporters use US goods or technology in their equipment we will also summarise key elements of the USA Re-export Regulations under EAR (dual-use) and ITAR (military). A perfect course for beginners or anyone wanting a refresher.

When ICC first introduced the Incoterms® standard commercial terms in 1936 they caused a sensation in the international business world. Representing a radically new concept in an industry regulated by local rules of law, the new terms were the first real attempt to bring coherence to a commercial and judicial system that diverged widely from one country to another. Since they were first introduced, the Incoterms rules have been revised about once a decade to keep up with the rapid expansion of world trade and globalization. Since the last revision in 2000, much has changed in global trade. Cargo security is now at the forefront of the transportation agenda for many countries. In addition, the United States’ Uniform Commercial Code was revised in 2004, resulting in a deletion of US shipment and delivery terms. The latest version of the Incoterms rules reflects these changes and others. This full-day course includes case studies and workshop sessions to give a total understanding of how Incoterms work and how the new set affects your business requirements.
