GRADUATE EMPLOYMENT – UNIVERSITY OF WORCESTER

With unemployment figures on the rise and more graduates leaving university without a job the University of Worcester continues its campaign to help boost graduate employment in the region. With their flagship Salaried Graduate Internship Scheme in its third year they are currently looking to match more graduates than in previous years with employers across the West Midlands. They have a pool of graduates waiting to be matched with employers, including business, marketing, digital design & IT graduates. The university will help you with an initial shortlist, then its up to you to interview and select your own employee. They also offer the Work Based Learning qualification (which is optional) which you can use as an opportunity for your employee to work on a project set by you under the guidance and support of the University.

So, are you eligible for the scheme:
• Are you based in West Midlands?
• Are you an SME with less than 250 employees?

If you answered yes to the above and are interested in taking on a graduate and injecting some fresh new talent into your workplace, then get in touch Laura Lewis, Graduate Internship & Employment Co-ordinator, Laura.lewis@worc.ac.uk, 01905 855354

FREE WORKSHOP TO EXPLAIN NEW ASBESTOS REGULATIONS:

Asbestos still kills 4000 people in the UK each year, for this reason work on asbestos is strictly controlled. The legislation and the guidance can be a minefield to understand.

The Control of Asbestos Regulations have been updated as of 6th April 2012 which may have a significant impact on what builders / contractors can now carry out legally and will have implications for any work that they do carry out.

Environmental Management Solutions have teamed up with Hereford Asbestos Services to offer a free workshop to Chamber members to discuss and explain the changes in regulations and answer any questions related to it.

The workshop is about 1.5hrs long and will be repeated throughout the day, the first starting at 0800hrs. It is aimed at anyone that may come into contact with asbestos in their workplace (Construction workers, builders, plumbers, cable guys etc etc) or anyone that employs or is responsible for maintenance teams.

Friday May 4th
Workshop times
0800, 1000, 1230, 1500, 1700

The venue has been provided by TPG Disabled Aids, Plough Lane, Hereford in their onsite training facilities.

IMPORTANT CHANGES MADE BY HRMC - CASE STUDIES REQUIRED

HMRC has recently made important changes to both the Business Record Checks (BRC) and the Real Time Information (RTI) schemes in a bid to reduce the administrative burden that firms currently face. The BRC’s new approach will offer educational support for record keeping to businesses, but will retain the option of issuing a penalty for poor compliance. The RTI scheme will improve the PAYE system by making employers send tax and National Insurance information immediately when payments are made instead of at the end of the year. The entire process will be carried out online, and will do away with P35, P14, P45, P46 and P38A forms.

We are keen to hear from businesses as to how they are coping with these changes, and whether they are still encountering problems in these areas.

To submit case studies or more information, please contact policy@hwchamber.co.uk
