Local Employment Partnerships

An Overview - Local Employment Partnerships?

Searching for the right person for your business is often a challenge – time-consuming, costly and sometimes frustrating. Local Employment Partnerships can find the right person for the right job. There are no complications, no bill to pay, no risk and plenty of support. There are many people with real potential whom you simply can’t reach by traditional recruitment methods like newspaper advertising or word of mouth.
Local Employment Partnerships connect you with them. Local Employment Partnerships involve Jobcentre Plus and employers like you working together to unlock the talent available in the local community.

What are local Employment Partnerships?

Local Employment Partnerships (LEPs) are an exciting new collaboration between Government and business to tackle the increasing recruitment and skills challenges of our labour market and economy. Employers across the country have signed up to working in partnership with Government to open up opportunities for people who, for whatever reason, have not yet been able to take advantage of the employment opportunities that are out there.

What Do local Employment Partnerships Mean For My Business?

Local Employment Partnerships involve Jobcentre Plus and local businesses working together. The Local Employment Partnership pledge asks you to consider Jobcentre Plus customers for your vacancies, and in return it will identify and prepare the right people for you.
The first step towards reaching an agreement that works for your business and the customers of Jobcentre Plus, is discussing the employment opportunities that you have and the recruitment issues that you face. Jobcentre Plus will then advise you on which areas of your business can best be supported. Jobcentre Plus will work with you to:

  • Agree how the partnership will work
  • Develop new approaches to recruitment
  • Ensure opportunities are open to all
  • Agree the responsibilities of both parties
Why should I consider signing up to a Local Employment Partnership?

As a business you can offer people opportunities to get back into the workplace and progress -  for example through interviews, mentoring, on the job training or work trials. In return, Job Centre Plus will ensure you have the chance to recruit people you might not have considered, who are eager to work and have the core skills that you need. Being an LEP employer can help demonstrate to the local community that you have faith in the local workforce, and that you want to provide job opportunities for local people.

What happens when I sign up to a Local Employment Partnership?

An experienced account manager can work with you to make sure that they understand your business and recruitment requirements, and to draw up a tailored partnership agreement that delivers the best results for everyone involved. Once the agreement is in place, they will do all they can to find you the right candidates with the right attitude, when you need them.
